MAX16838: Maxim releases the first two-string HB LED driver for automotive applications

SUNNYVALE, CA—February 1, 2010—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX16838, the industry's only two-string HB (high-brightness) LED driver for automotive applications. This device integrates a boost or SEPIC switching converter, two linear current sinks, and all necessary power MOSFETs. The MAX16838 is able to optimize conversion efficiency, provide complete fault protection, and allow a 5000:1 dimming range-without any external components. This HB LED driver is well suited for LCD backlighting applications, particularly in automotive displays.

MAX15054: New high-side FET driver simplifies the design of buck and buck-boost HB LED drivers

SUNNYVALE, CA—January 27, 2010—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX15054, a high-side MOSFET driver for high voltage applications. This device provides a low-cost solution for HB (high-brightness) LED designs that require a buck or buck-boost topology, but lack the requisite high-side MOSFET driver. The MAX15054 enables designers to avoid the cost and complexity of a SEPIC topology by allowing the implementation of buck and single-inductor buck-boost topologies with the output referenced to ground in single string and multistring LED drivers.

High-Voltage, 100mA/200mA/350mA, Linear HB LED Drivers Provide Adjustable Output and Simplify Lighting Designs

PR16815_28.jpg

SUNNYVALE, CA—March 20, 2008—Maxim Integrated Products (Pink Sheets: MXIM) introduces the MAX16815/MAX16828/MAX16835/MAX16836 high-voltage, linear high-brightness LED (HB LED) drivers capable of driving a long string of HB LEDs from a 6.5V to 40V input supply. These single-channel devices integrate a pass element with a low, 0.4V (typ) dropout voltage, thus eliminating the need for an external power transistor. Providing ±5% accurate LED current control, the pass element ensures excellent brightness matching while reducing the size, complexity, and cost of the total LED driver solution.
